September = a fresh start
September often feels like a fresh start and it’s the perfect time for a September fitness reset.
The summer holidays are coming to an end, children are heading back to school and normal routines start to return. Perhaps your own routine has slipped a little over the summer too — more meals out, holidays, treats, later nights and less exercise.
And that’s OK. Summer is for enjoying yourself! Which we covered in the July blog: Staying Consistent On Holiday
But September is also a brilliant time to think about you.
Because there are just four months until Christmas. Eeeek – sorry but there I said it!
Rather than waiting until January to make those changes you’ve been thinking about, what if you started now?
Imagine it’s January 1st…
How do you want to look?
How do you want to feel?
What would you like your body to be able to do?
Would you like to feel stronger? Fitter? More energetic? More confident in your clothes?
Would you like to have built some healthy habits that fit into your life?
Maybe you’d like to lose some weight, but perhaps your goal is less about the scales and more about feeling comfortable, capable and confident in your body.
Now imagine that you could arrive at January having already spent four months working towards those things.
Wouldn’t that feel good?
You don’t need to wait for January
We often see January as the time for a “new you” — new goals, new diet, new exercise routine.
You don’t need a new you. Just a stronger, healthier you.
September gives you four months to build some momentum without the pressure of trying to change everything at once.
Your September fitness reset doesn’t have to mean a complete lifestyle change. You could start strength training once or twice a week.

The NHS Live Well Guide recommends that adults do strengthening activities on at least two days a week, alongside regular movement and aerobic activity. There are 3 JaneyHFit classes available across the week, pay as you go, £10 per session:
Wednesday 6.15pm at Hanwell Village Hall, for ladies only
Thursday 5.45pm at Milcombe Village Hall
Friday 5.30pm at Shutford Village Hall – the one with the aircon !
Or why not invest in a personal training session, options to bring a friend to share the cost. This can be strength based, Pilates focussed, cardio blast or a mix – all based on your goals.
Make it work for real life
You could get out for more walks. It will soon be conker season and it’s wonderful to take the time to appreciate the changing colours and landscape.
Maybe it’s a nutrition focus – are you eating enough protein, fruit, vegetables and fibre? Hydration is important all year round too !

You could make sleep and recovery more of a priority.
Over time, small changes, consistently repeated, can add up to a big difference.
And most importantly, you can still enjoy your life. There will be weekends away, meals out, birthdays and Christmas celebrations. This isn’t about being “good” or “bad” — it’s about creating sustainable habits that work in the real world.
What could your September fitness reset look like?
Take five minutes and ask yourself:
How do I want to feel when I wake up on January 1st?
What would I love to be able to do that feels difficult now?
How would I like my clothes to fit?
What would make me feel stronger and more confident?

And finally…
What’s one thing I can start doing this September to move me towards that version of me?
You don’t have to wait for a Monday.
You don’t have to wait for January.
